Leave blank to use the selected tyre estimate (23 mm default: 2096 mm). Enter the measured distance for one complete rear-wheel revolution to override it.

Track gear inches always use the 27-inch convention. Rollout, speed and lap times use your measured circumference when provided; otherwise they use the selected 700C tyre circumference estimate.

How the calculator works

Rollout and timing use approximate 700C tyre circumferences: 19 mm = 2080 mm; 23 mm = 2096 mm; 25 mm = 2105 mm; 28 mm = 2136 mm; 30 mm = 2146 mm. The default is 23 mm. These lookup estimates come from Garmin's wheel-size table. Actual circumference depends on tyre construction, rim, pressure and rider load. For your setup, enter a measured rear-wheel circumference; this overrides the tyre selection.

Gear ratio = front teeth / rear teeth
Track gear inches = 27 x gear ratio (fixed reference)
Rollout (m) = circumference used (mm) / 1000 x gear ratio
Speed (km/h) = rollout (m) x cadence x 0.06
Lap time (s) = track length (m) x 60 / (rollout (m) x cadence)

Entering a measured circumference updates rollout, speed, lap time and the cadence table. The 27-inch gear label remains unchanged. Clearing the measured input returns all distance and timing calculations to the selected tyre estimate.

Race time with a first-lap time = first-lap time + (race distance - track length) / speed in metres per second. For a race shorter than one lap, leave the first-lap time blank. Totals use unrounded values; displayed splits are rounded to 0.01 seconds.

These are geometric estimates, not an official gear-limit measurement. More about bicycle gearing and wheel measurement
